Bex Tatham

Tell us a little bit about yourself...

Hi my name is Bex and I live up in the North of Cumbria. I am mostly a cyclist of the mountain bike variety but I will dabble in road and gravel bikes too. I also like to go fell walking and wild swimming and generally enjoy being outdoors at most given moments.

When did your passion for adventure / the outdoors begin?

My passion for the outdoors began from an early age when my brother and I were taken camping all over the UK. Our most frequented spots were in the Yorkshire Dales national park and the Lake District. Although we spent a lot of time visiting our grandparents on the edge of the new forest too. Whilst at home I have fond memories of climbing trees and digging holes on the allotment so I guess there never was an excuse to be at home.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?

My biggest challenge to date was riding the Rievers Off road route which goes from Maryport to Tynemouth. Although we decided to start from Whitehaven as that’s where we could get a lift to. I hadn’t anticipated if being too hard but during the journey was the point I realised that “wow, it was a long way.” The journey was completed over 2 days and covered 255km. We made it to the last train home from Newcastle with 5 minutes to spare!

What core value do you try to apply in your outdoor endeavours?

Appreciate the natural world around you. There’s not been a day where I am not at awe at what occurs outside in nature whenever I am out and about.

What three words do you associate with being outdoors?

Snacking, Stoked and Social

What does the Wonderful Wild Women Community mean to you?

The community means a lot to me, one of my fondest memories was listening to Sarah who came along to our Coledale Horseshoe walk. She had always wanted to do a walk like that but didn’t want to do it on her own. I’m really pleased that WWW offer the social walks as it offers opportunities to women who might not necessarily want to head off and do these things on their own. Along with moments like these as there are many, I really love watching and hearing about the other HQ members adventures and achievements. It’s really an inspiring community to be a part of.
