Sarahs12MonthRunningChallenge : Dean Barwick MTB Challenge
For 2019 WWW Sarah is embarking on a yearlong fundraising mission to raise funds for her daughters wonderful little school Dean Barwick Primary School as well as the charity Place2Be.
Dean Barwick is a small rural school located in the village of Witherslack, Cumbria. Due to their small class numbers they rely heavily on fundraising to maintain the excellent facilities and support for their pupils.
A big drive for her fundraising is also to highlight and raise awareness of the growing mental health problems facing young children today.
Mental health problems affect about 1 in 10 children and young people. They include depression, anxiety and conduct disorder,
and are often a direct response to what is happening in their lives.
Alarmingly, however, 70% of children and young people who experience a mental health problem have not had
appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age.
The emotional wellbeing of children is just as important as their physical health. Good mental health allows children
and young people to develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into
well-rounded, healthy adults. (Mental Health Foundation)
Personally running is her ‘me time’. As someone who finds it difficult to sit still and deal with ‘stuff’,
she finds running forces her to reflect & process whatever she has going on & that is why she has chosen to (mainly) focus on this activity.
For the next year she will be taking part in a (mostly running) challenge or event which challenges her in some way, whether that is time,
distance terrain etc. Kicking off in February 2019 during #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek and continuing for 12months.
FOR MAY THE EVENT IS THE DEAN BARWICK MOUNTAIN BIKE CHALLENGE –
a small exception being made to the ‘running’ element of the year given that its an event organised specifically by the school!!!
Suitable for all levels of riders with a choice of 2 distances (approx 25k and 40k) This unique event accesses a variety of trails and singletrack in the south lakes that are available to ride for this one day only.
To join Sarah and take part on the day see the official event Facebook page Dean Barwick Mountain Bike Challenge – Annual Event
where you will find details on how to enter when entries go live.
