Outdoor Provisions
WE ARE CERTIFIED ‘FRESH AIR HEADS’…
Eh? What does that mean? …
Well in short we have joined forces with the truly scrumptious Outdoor Provisions gang in a bond of mutual love of the outdoors and everyday adventures.
Outdoor Provisions are a small team with a keen eye for creating a product that is low impact & gives back to the organisations that work to protect the outdoors…
Vegan, made in the UK & with flavours inspired by the UK National Parks.
What does that mean for you? …
As we, as a Community, start to venture back into our favourite outdoor places and spaces you will be sure to pick up a bar on the way as OP will be supplying us with their yummy bars to fuel our days out on the fells during our social walks… plus the odd online giveaway.
Here at WWW HQ we’ve been doing the hard graft for most of the year 😉 taste testing all the bars and putting them through their paces. We’ve popped together this short review which, actually, is probably not all that helpful as we can’t actually agree on one clear favourite… fortunately they come in a mixed box so you can give them a try yourself and see which one you prefer!
We reckon you’ll have just as much trouble as us though trying to just choose one!
Whats your favourite bar?
Bex: Parkin is my favourite bar, being a Yorkshire lass at heart! However the Kendal mint cake comes in a close second surprisingly, as chocolate and mint usually isn’t my favourite combo!!
Gilly: The cherry bake well one – it’s the only chance to eat a bakewell I’ll get thats not obliterated in my rucksack. These bars totally taste of bakewell!
Kate: I think it has to be Parkin, love anything with ginger in it. Hard to pick a favourite though, they’re all lush!
Lauren: My favourite Outdoor Provisions bar is the chocolate Kendal mint cake flavour!! Because, well, I love chocolate.
Jenny: Mint cake for sure, reminds me of home. But it is closely followed by Parkin.
Sarah: Ahhhhhh such a hard decision! Currently LOVING Bara Brith… but Cherry Bakewell comes a very close second!
Where do they come in most handy?
Bex: I find the outdoor provisions bars are their handiest when you forget that you’ve left one in your pack the last time you were out on the bike and they’re a saviour this time because you’ve forgotten any food whatsoever for that night ride.
Gilly: Where do they not!?
Kate: They’re always handy, I take them on bike rides and walks but I also use them after a home workout and generally just for snacking on (I try to keep them for the outside but it’s pretty hard…)
Lauren: Outdoor Provisions have saved me from bonking on a number of rides on the road bike. I can’t wait to take them on the trails with me too. Oh and the dog I live with also approves of OP – he sniffed them out and gobbled them up in my room.
Jenny: Everywhere!! Runs, bike rides both road and MTB, hikes in the big hills, low level hikes with the kids. Wild swims and even emergency snacks for the van. I use them for everything!
Sarah: I find them really useful for big days out on the fells whether running or walking. I tend to pop a couple in my bag, eat one and then find the stashed one again on another outing just when I need it!
What do you like about Outdoor Provisions as a brand?
Bex: I like that the brand supports 1% for the planet and have also made their wrappers compostable. Make sure you still take these home though! It’s refreshing to see an energy bar company not being super sporty either and appealing to an every day adventurer. A great accompaniment to lunch or goes down a treat with a flask of tea in the afternoon.
Gilly: Local, actually moreish, taste fresh a have a great ethos behind the brand.
Kate: Their whole ethos, always a focus on the environment and their impact. Giving back to initiatives supporting the outdoors! Luke and Christian are cool, they’re heart is in the brand and you can tell, it’s awesome that they just enjoy everything about the outdoors! Also – the bars, just the right texture for a quick bite on a ride, not to dry, not to sticky – just right!!
Lauren: I love Outdoor Provisions as a brand because I love their strong values as a brand: they stick by strong eco-conscious values with the wrappers made from 100% compostable and recycled materials. Plus, they are vegan with no refined sugars and made in the UK! You couldn’t ask much more from an energy bar brand, could you?!
Jenny: Love the attention to detail, all natural ingredients, vegan, no refined sugars compostable wrappers. And the fact the are inspired by the areas where we play.
Sarah: Much the same as all the points above really. For us here at WWW HQ, building lasting authentic relationships is key and with the OP Team it really feels like we’re on to a good thing. You can feel the energy that these guys put in to delivering a quality product at every stage.
Any suggestions for a future recipe?
Bex: If I had to suggest a new recipe it would be something along the lines of apple crumble!
Gilly: Apple and cinnamon please. Or banana bread!
Kate: Ermmm I’ll leave that to the experts
Jenny: Strawberry and cream (but not cream as I’m dairy free!) the sweetness would compliment the bar in my eyes, or taste buds!
Sarah: Going on the theme of flavours inspired by The National Parks I would have to suggest one with a Scottish twist inspired by the Cairngorms or Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Oh and maybe one that is nut free!
